Annual Yellow Springs, Ohio, Old Truck Show Holds Final Event
Yellow Springs, Ohio (Oct. 20, 2021)—The staff of Ertel Publishing, which has hosted the Vintage Truck Magazine Truck Show in Yellow Springs, Ohio, since 2001, recently decided to end the annual one-day event.
When 280 vehicles attended the show in 2018 and 300 showed up in 2019, the staff felt that the free-of-charge event had grown too large to manage. The display field, generously donated by Young’s Jersey Dairy, comfortably holds 220 show vehicles. Relocating to a rented facility would mean charging admission and attracting vendors to defray costs. It would also likely have meant changing the date from its traditional first Saturday in August.
“It was a tough decision to end the show,” according to Brad Bowling, the host publication’s editor. “Rather than split our resources between production of Vintage Truck magazine and the management of an ever-larger show, we have decided to get out of the event business altogether. We entertained several options for staying at the current location, but each possibility came with drawbacks that we felt would do more harm than good to the event’s reputation.”
Vintage Truck magazine, which will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2022, is a bi-monthly print publication dedicated to the history and preservation of light-duty trucks from the industry’s beginning through the mid-1980s. For more information, visit VintageTruckMagazine.com.
